Any ideas for CHEAP accomodation for 4 share, blokes trip so don't need all the glitz n glamour, for Tokyo-Rapoongi, Hakuba, Kyoto and Osaka. Close to city centre preferably.

Should we pre-purchase a JR pass before leaving for Japan?
Should we pre purchase tickets for Sumo tournament we plan on attending in Osaka?
Travelling from Nagano to Kyoto, should we go back through Tokyo or take a direct route on a slower train?
