Working as you travel enables you to meet locals and other travellers. What do you think are the best jobs to pay your way as you travel around the world?

1. Internet marketing (you won't meet people doing that but you'll have the time to get out and do stuff where you can meet people).
2. Teaching English (provided English is your first language).
3. Working in a bar.
4. Seasonal work such fruit picking.
5. Working on boats (A lot of people go to the south of France and work cleaning boats etc)

What are some other options for travellers?

I definitely agree with your list there Andrea. I know people who have had a great time working and travelling doing those jobs.

I would add to the list any trade - plumber, builder, painter etc. My friends who travelled young only had a small amount of experience but found plenty of work and great pay if they were willing to work hard.

When you do something that is in demand you can normally work hard for short stints and then travel for a 2 or 3 months.

I have a few friends who do that... 5/6 months on a boat, 5/6 working at a ski or snowboarding resort and have couple of months where ever... one advantage is that they hardly ever pay any rent as the cabin is free on the boat and so is the ski chalet.

Great post, cheers!

Some of it really depends on where you are going and how concerned you are about staying the right side of the law.

I met some westerners doing bar work in Thailand, and although I'm shit at saving money for travelling I don't see much point in risking a stay in a foreign jail to earn in a week what you could in a day back home.

One more to add to the list is freelance work. Photography could go well with travelling, I've got a list of sites that will sell your photos that I'll post on here later.

Yeah, good stuff here.  Writing is a good job to have while traveling.  It can basically be done from anywhere and you get some great ideas for material while on the road.  Also, I've read that in a lot of Asian countries, wives are neglected and there is a burgeoning market for male gigolos.  Can't really think of a better job than that!
