I used to use a Compaq one (forgot the model, sorry), which was ok but nothing special. As I've been stuck in one place I'm just using a desktop at the mo, but keeping an eye on laptops for when I do get back travelling.
What's the battery life like on your Vostro?

I have an Acer and a Dell, both with 17 inch screens, so they're quite large and heavy.
I would definitely recommend getting an ultra portable (or whatever they call them) especially for when you travel. They are so light it's amazing but they keyboards and screen are too small for everyday use. I don't have one yet but am definitely on the lookout for something. They are very expensive compared to larger laptops which is why I'm still waiting to get one.
